Police recovered the decomposing body of an unidentified person inside an apartment in Jersey City Thursday morning.
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 12:35 a.m., police were notified of a suspicious odor coming from an apartment at 497 Mercer Street and launched an investigation.
When emergency responders arrived, they gained entry into the residence and found the body.
Police have not determined if the incident involved foul play or if the person's death is considered suspicious at this time.
The investigation remains active.
