Residents across Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a damp and dreary start this Father’s Day, with light rain and cool temperatures greeting early risers.According to the National Weather Service, it’s currently 61 degrees at 4:30 a.m. in downtown Newark.
If you're heading out to early Sunday service or stepping out early to celebrate the dads in your life, you may want to bring a light jacket, and keep an umbrella handy.
Doppler radar from The Weather Channel shows moisture and scattered activity in the atmosphere, but much of it isn’t reaching the ground. Still, forecasters say there’s a 30 percent chance of light rain before 11 a.m.
NWS forecasters say skies will remain cloudy throughout the day with a high near 67 degrees and light northeast winds around 6 mph.
Sunday night brings a slight 20 percent chance of light rain after 8 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and lows around 60.
While it won’t be the sunniest day, it’s not expected to be a total washout, making it possible to still enjoy outdoor time with family.
Happy Father’s Day, and have a great Sunday, New Jersey!
