A former Irvington police officer who led authorities on a hunt after he allegedly kidnapped his 3-year-old daughter into New Jersey after stabbing her mother in New York will be extradited to face charges.
During his appearance before Judge Joseph Portelli in Passaic County Superior Court, Diomedes Valenzuela waived his right to contest his extradition today.
Authorities said the Valenzuela critically injured his 3-year-old daughter's mother in the Bronx Tuesday. Shortly after the attack, Valenzuela fled the scene taking Rebecca (their daughter) with him in a Dodge Caravan. Authorities fearing for the child's safety issued an Amber Alert in New York and New Jersey.
Valenzuela was arrested in Clifton Tuesday evening and child was found unharmed after the New Jersey State Police spotted Valenzuela on the Garden State Parkway.
Valenzuela is expected back in Passaic County Superior Court on Jan. 5.
