CT Man Charged in Fatal Readington Twp. Crash

Readington Township

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, and Readington Township Police Chief Joseph Greco announced that a Connecticut man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on State Highway 202 northbound in Readington Township on Dec. 26th.

According to Prosecutor Kearns, at approximately 3:58 pm, the Readington Township Police Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 202 northbound at the intersection of Summer Road.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevy pickup truck struck the rear of a Volkswagen GTI on State Highway 202. A third vehicle was struck by the Volkswagen but received minimal damage, and the occupants were uninjured.

The driver of the Volkswagen, later identified as Wilson A. Subana, 57, of South Bound Brook, was transported to the Hunterdon Medical Center and then pronounced dead.

The driver of the Chevy pickup truck, later identified as Joe A. Holmes, 57, of Willimantic, Connecticut, was uninjured.

Police ultimately arrested Holmes and charged him with 2nd-degree Vehicular Homicide, Driving While Under the Influence and Reckless Driving.

A judge ordered Holmes held at the Somerset County Jail.

Prosecutor Kearns stated, “Our condolences go out the Mr. Subana’s family and friends during this difficult time. It is important, especially during the busy holiday season, to drive with extreme care and awareness and to be reminded of the life-altering dangers of consuming alcohol or drugs, which adversely affects your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.”

The incident remains under investigation; further details will be released when they become available.
