Crossing Guard Killed, Two Children Injured in Woodland Park Crash

A tragic incident in Woodland Park has left a community mourning after a crossing guard was struck and killed while assisting children at an intersection Monday afternoon.

According to a statement released by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Woodland Park Police Chief Luigi DeLucareported that the incident occurred on May 4, 2026, at approximately 3:35 p.m. at the intersection of McBride Avenue and Lackawanna Avenue.
 

Authorities say an 80-year-old female crossing guard was helping two juveniles cross the street when all three were struck by a vehicle. 

The crossing guard, a Woodland Park resident, was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

 

The two juveniles were also taken to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

 

Officials said the driver remained at the scene following the crash. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation.
