Crime Initiative Plan: Newark Police Catch Jersey City Man Allegedly with Drugs, Gun in Taxi Cab

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of **Mr. Daniel Obasohan, 22, of Jersey City**, for the alleged possession of a .357 caliber handgun and a stash of marijuana.

According to Newark Police Director Anthony Ambrose, in response to crime and citizens complaints, a crime reduction initiative was undertaken in the 3rd Precinct this weekend which resulted in no reported crimes in the effort and the arrest of a suspect armed with a gun.

Director Ambrose said, shortly before 12 am, Sunday morning, officers stopped a cab for attempting to enter a closed street.

The cab, with Abasohan in the rear, smelled of marijuana Director Ambrose said.

Police arrested Abasohan after he was found to be in possession of marijuana and a .357 caliber handgun.

Authorities charged Mr. Obasohan with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of marijuana within a 1000 ft of a school, possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for unlawful purposes and possession of prohibited ammunition, (hollow point bullets).

These charges are mere accusations lodged against Mr. Obasohan. He considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
