A violent crash on Route 22 killed a least one person early this morning in Springfield.
According to initial reports from the scene, shortly before 3 a.m., police and rescue crews rushed to the westbound side of Route 22 near Rt. 577 after they received calls of a crash with injuries at that location.
At least one male victim suffered fatal injuries according to reports.
Sources at the scene reported to Metro that the victim may have been a law enforcement officer but could not immediately confirm.
Police closed all westbound lanes to conduct a crash investigation for several hours.
