Police are investigating after two businesses along Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair were targeted by a suspect who used counterfeit cash to make purchases.
The incidents occurred on March 25, 2026, when an unidentified male entered Qahwah House and purchased a pastry using a fake $50 bill.
According to an employee, the suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black jacket, camouflage pants, and black Air Jordan sneakers.
After completing the transaction, the suspect left the business and walked east along Bloomfield Avenue.
Authorities said the same individual then entered Tous les Jours a short time later, where he again purchased a pastry using another counterfeit $50 bill.
No injuries were reported, and the suspect fled the area following the incidents.
Police have not released surveillance images at this time, and the investigation remains active.
Officials are reminding business owners and employees to remain vigilant when handling large bills and to report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
