Cool Start Gives Way to Wet Memorial Day Weekend Across North Jersey

New Jersey

Good morning, New Jersey.

If you’re up with us at 4:30 a.m., you’re enjoying what may be the driest day of the next several as a stretch of unsettled weather settles in just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

Temperatures have dropped significantly from the summer-like warmth earlier this week.

It is 58 degrees in downtown Newark this morning, with some communities across North Jersey waking up to even cooler readings in the lower and middle 50s.

Cloudy skies are hanging over the region, but conditions remain dry for the morning commute.

If you’re headed to the bus stop, train station, or out for an early walk, a light jacket should be enough to keep you comfortable.

According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers developing later in the afternoon.

High temperatures are expected to reach the lower 70s with light winds. Rain chances increase tonight and continue through much of the holiday weekend.

Forecasters are calling for periods of rain and scattered showers Saturday through Memorial Day, with the potential for some heavier downpours at times.

While the weekend won’t be a washout, residents planning barbecues, beach trips, parades, or other outdoor activities should keep an umbrella nearby and monitor the latest forecast.

For now, enjoy the cooler air and dry conditions while they last.

Have a great Friday, New Jersey.
