By: Richard L. Smith

After a late-night earthquake that rattled Bergen County and was felt by residents in Newark, the region is starting Sunday with cool, refreshing breezes and calm weather conditions.According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered a magnitude of 3.0 but caused no reported damage or injuries.

Now, residents across Newark and the North Jersey region can look forward to a beautiful second half of the weekend.

As of 4:30 a.m., it’s a crisp 63 degrees at Broad and Lafayette streets in downtown Newark, with sunny skies and light winds creating a near-perfect morning.

If you’re headed to early church services or out for a walk, I can't promise additional earthquake tremors, but for sure, there’s no need for an umbrella.

According to the National Weather Service, today will feature sunny skies with a high near 85 degrees and light breezes shifting eastward by afternoon.

Tonight, forecasters say it will remain mostly clear, with a low around 67.

Enjoy this gorgeous Sunday, North Jersey!
