The Environmental Protection Agency is investigating a hazmat incident that occurred in Essex County on March 9th.
According to Glen Ridge Police officials, Officer Joseph Anello responded to the intersection of Washington and Ridgewood to investigate reports of a hazmat situation.
Officials said Officer Anello met with the Glen Ridge DPW, who reported observing a contractor dumping an unknown substance into the sewer system.
After investigating the matter, police determined that a mixture of paint and another unknown substance had been discarded.
Official said Nutley Hazmat responded and notified the EPA before cleaning up the spill.
Police issued a Borough Ordinance violation to the contractor and this investigation was immediately turned over to the EPA for follow-up.
