If you’re heading toward Newark Liberty International Airport this morning, you’ll want to avoid Route 21 southbound at Route 1&9 interchange.
Newark Police and Newark Fire crews are currently on scene after a tractor trailer overturned, spilling scrap aluminum across all southbound lanes.
Authorities confirmed the tractor itself did not roll over, but the trailer came down, scattering recyclable metal across the roadway.
As a result, all lanes are shut down, creating significant delays in the area.
Drivers traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport are strongly advised to reroute via Route 78 to avoid getting stuck in the backup.
Motorists coming across Route 22 or Broad Street in Newark, or Route 21 southbound should expect heavy congestion and extended delays.
Officials say cleanup will take time due to debris covering multiple lanes.

If you’re heading out, pack your patience and plan for extra travel time, this will likely impact the morning commute for a while.
Stay with us for updates as crews continue working to clear the roadway.
