The Essex County Sheriff’s Office is rolling out a fresh addition to its public safety efforts with the launch of brand-new patrol motorcycles, marking a key advancement in mobility, visibility, and community connection.

According to information released by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, this milestone comes under the leadership of Sheriff Amir D. Jones, who has made history as the first African American to hold the office.

Sheriff Jones is known for his commitment to modernization, accountability, and strengthening ties between law enforcement and the community.

“These motorcycles are more than just new equipment—they’re a symbol of our ongoing commitment to being present, prepared, and connected with the people we serve,” Sheriff Jones said in a statement.

“This is part of a larger effort to enhance our approach to public safety and ensure we are not only visible but actively engaged in making a positive impact.”

The department’s eight custom-built motorcycles are equipped with state-of-the-art safety lighting, sirens, and expanded storage for emergency gear.

Designed to boost agility and increase the department’s ability to respond quickly, the new bikes are particularly useful for navigating traffic, covering large public events, and extending patrols into both urban neighborhoods and more rural parts of the county.

This upgrade represents another step forward in Sheriff Jones’s vision of a responsive, modernized law enforcement agency that places community trust at the center of its mission.
