Community Praised After Tip Leads to Drug Arrest in Paterson; 750 Packets of Heroin Recovered

Paterson

Police Director Jerry Speziale is praising the community after several tips helped police apprehend several suspects who were in possession of a large quantity of heroin.

After authorities conducted surveillance in the area of 10th Ave. Between 26th and East 27th Street, police observe the men making as many as three drug transactions according to Speziale.

Speziale said Police dog “Marco” and his handler, Officer Ryan Curving, found a stash of 740 heroin packets worth $10 each in a black plastic bag hidden among wooden pallets in a parking lot on 10th Avenue.

Police took into custody 49-year-old William James, going back and forth to the pallets as he made drug sales, Speziale said. Police charged James with  various drug charges. Speziale said 55-year-old Alvin Barrino, 55-year-old Michael Cleveland, and 27-year-old Joel Hille, were also apprehended after purchasing drugs.

“We welcome community support and through this collaboration we will achieve a safer Paterson,” Speziale said.
