We’re waking up to a sharp return of colder conditions across the region, with freeze warnings in place for parts of North Jersey and temperatures dipping into the lower 20s in some areas overnight.

In Newark’s Downtown District, it’s currently 37 degrees just before 4:45 a.m., so if you’re heading out early, make sure you grab that warm jacket—you’re going to need it.

Despite plenty of sunshine expected today, temperatures will struggle to warm up much, keeping that chill in the air.

After enjoying near 90-degree weather just last week, it’s clear that winter isn’t quite ready to let go just yet.

According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 54 degrees. Winds will remain light, becoming south at 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight, clouds will increase with showers likely after 2 a.m. Temperatures will drop to around 44 degrees with a south wind near 9 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
