We are waking up to very cloudy skies this morning after a stormy overnight that brought another round of heavy rain to Newark and portions of the North Jersey region.
Good morning, Jersey. If you’re waking up with us at 4:30 a.m., skies are cloudy and temperatures are sitting just below 70 degrees in downtown Newark.
Around the state, temperatures are starting off on the cooler side, with Morristown at 64 degrees, Toms River at 69, Pleasantville at 71 and portions of Passaic County around 67 degrees early this morning.
Most of the day should remain dry despite the clouds hanging around.
Rain chances will stay relatively low through much of Wednesday before increasing later tonight.
So, although we won’t see much sunshine, we’re still looking at a fairly decent and comfortable day with temperatures only reaching the mid-70s.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30% chance of showers, mainly after 2 p.m.
Otherwise, conditions will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 75 degrees. Northeast winds around 7 mph will become southeast during the afternoon.
Tonight, rain chances begin to ramp up. Showers are possible before 11 p.m., followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. After 2 a.m., showers become more likely, with thunderstorms also possible.
The chance of precipitation increases to 70% overnight, with lows around 68 degrees.
Most locations could receive between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain, although thunderstorms could produce higher amounts.
So keep the umbrella nearby, particularly if you’ll be out late tonight, but we are not expecting the entire day to be a washout.
