On December 5, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that Alfredo Hernandez-Sanchez, 36, of Clifton, was sentenced to forty-five years in New Jersey State Prison by the Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, a Judge of the Superior Court, according to authorities.

Authorities say on June 7, 2018, the Clifton Police Department referred an investigation to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding a fifteen-year-old child who reported being sexually abused by Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez for several years.

Officials say that Prosecutor’s Office Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, including the child victim.

According to officials, the child reported being sexually abused by Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez on multiple occasions between January 2014 and March 2018 at her residence in Clifton.

After Prosecutor’s Office Detectives arrested Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez for sexually abusing the child victim, authorities say he wrote a letter to the child victim from the Passaic County Jail apologizing to her and asking her to help him by changing the sworn statement she initially provided to Prosecutor’s Office Detectives.

On April 7, officials say that a Passaic County petit jury found Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez guilty of multiple counts in Passaic County Indictment Number 20-02-00091-I.

On December 1, Judge Portelli sentenced Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez to forty-five years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to a thirty-year parole disqualifier.

According to authorities, Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration requirements upon release from prison.

Passaic County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco represented the State during the jury trial before Judge Portelli and Leigh G. Saltiel, Esq. represented Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez.
