A Clifton man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he stabbed a 62-year-old resident, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi, Anthony C. Schwiederek was arrested on June 26 following an investigation into a stabbing that occurred earlier that day at a residence in Clifton.
Police responded to the home after receiving reports of a stabbing and found the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries to the neck and head.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain under medical care.
Investigators identified Schwiederek as the suspect, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Schwiederek has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Authorities did not release the victim’s identity in accordance with New Jersey’s Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.
If convicted of first-degree attempted murder, Schwiederek faces a sentence of 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison and must serve 85 percent of any sentence imposed before becoming eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.
