A 41-year-old Ridgefield Park man was arrested on charges he engaged in sexual activity with an 11-year-old girl, prosecutors said.
Luis Higinio Elias Velasco faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced today.
On August 27, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Cliffside Park Police Department arrested Luis Higinio Elias Velasco after learning that he engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with an eleven year old female acquaintance.
The victim previously disclosed that information to a caseworker from the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency who then contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU). Detectives from SVU and the Cliffside Park Police Department subsequently interviewed the victim. The ensuing investigation resulted in his arrest.
His bail was set by the Honorable Frances McGrogan, J.S.C., at $500,000.00 with no ten percent option and no contact with the victim, and he must also surrender his passport as conditions of bail.
Elias Velasco was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
