Officers responded to Quick Chek on Westfield Avenue at approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning for a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, police learned a black male dressed in black with a mask robbed the store at gunpoint. The suspect fled on foot towards Rahway with an undisclosed amount of money.
However, as police canvassed the area located, officers spotted a White Honda Accord believed to be involved. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver ensued a chase which was ultimately terminated on the Garden State Parkway in Union due to road conditions and excessive speeds.
There were no immediate reports of injuries during the robbery or in the pursuit.
The robbery remains under investigation.
