Clara Maass Medical Center to Honor Secretary of the Smithsonian

Clara Maass Medical Center of RWJBarnabas Health is awarding Lonnie G. Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award at its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Virtual Celebration event on Monday, March 15, at 11 a.m.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Award is given to an individual who has tremendously impacted community and culture and honored Dr. King’s memory with the significance of his or her work. 

Born in Newark and raised in Belleville, Mr. Bunch was the founding director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and has since become the first African American and first historian to serve as head of the Smithsonian.

Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical, will open the event. After Mr. Bunch offers remarks, he will participate in a Q&A session.
