Citywide Tasked Force Formed to Address Fireworks Complaints in Elizabeth

Elizabeth

In addressing the fireworks situation occurring in Elizabeth and all surrounding areas, which has become a big concern, Mayor Bollwage and Director Graves announced that the Elizabeth Police Department has formed a Citywide Fireworks Taskforce.

According to Elizabeth officials, in the news, it was reported that fireworks sellers were expecting to see a drop of 20% to 50% in sales due to lockdowns.

Officials say in March, they launched a “buy 1, get two free” industry-wide special offer. Rather than seeing their business cut in half, stores have seen sales soaring more than 200% in some locations.

In response to this ongoing issue and all of the illegal fireworks complaints, the Fireworks Taskforce was created.

It is comprised of both uniform officers and detectives, who will respond to complaints and investigate the sale of illegal fireworks.

All complaints and tips may be called into Police Headquarters at 908-558-2111 or 908-558- 2112.
