City officials held a City-wide national signing day yesterday at the Central High School where students from around the city were honored for recently signing or preparing to sign letters of intent to colleges and universities around the country.
"We had 15 young men from the city to sign letters of intent for colleges and universities" a city official said.
Detroit Lion's Tahir Whitehead, coaches, and city officials from Newark were on hand to encourage the young men to strive for success. "The event is a culmination of events that the city is engaging in an effort to continue mentoring our young men" the city official said.
Several under classmates from West Side High School were on hand to observe the ceremony.
