We’re starting off on a cold note this Good Friday across Newark and the North Jersey region, but a much warmer and pleasant day is ahead.

Good morning — temperatures are sitting at 41 degrees on Broad Street in downtown Newark as the day begins. If you’re heading out early, especially to the bus stop, a coat is definitely needed to start.

Despite the chilly morning, conditions will improve as the day progresses.

Expect a steady warm-up into the mid to upper 60s, with even warmer pockets possible later in the afternoon, making for a comfortable day overall.

There’s also some excitement in the air as the New York Yankees return to the Bronx for Opening Day, and the weather should cooperate nicely for fans heading out this evening.

Early conditions include patchy fog and some light rain, but skies are expected to gradually clear by midday.

According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog is expected between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., followed by cloudy skies that will turn mostly sunny.

High temperatures will climb near 73 degrees, with light winds shifting southwest at 5 to 10 mph.
