A Chilly Start to Tuesday in Newark With Modest Improvement

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

We’re waking up cold this Tuesday morning, but there is finally a bit of relief from the frigid single-digit temperatures that have dominated the region over the past week.

As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures in downtown Newark are around 26 degrees.

While it feels slightly better than recent mornings, it is still very cold, with wind chills making it feel closer to the upper teens across much of the area.

Any snowmelt we’ve seen has been slow, but as temperatures briefly climb closer to and just above freezing during the day, there will be gradual melting in spots.

There is no major warm-up in sight, and colder days remain ahead, so don’t get too comfortable with the small break we felt yesterday.

Around the region, temperatures remain well below seasonal averages, reinforcing the need to bundle up if you’re heading out early this morning.

While today will feel a little more manageable than yesterday, winter still has a firm grip on New Jersey.

According to the National Weather Service, skies will remain sunny today with highs reaching near 35 degrees, though wind chills will range between 5 and 15 degrees.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with temperatures dropping back down to around 16 degrees.

Stay warm, New Jersey, and have a great Tuesday.
