Children’s Specialized Hospital, a part of RWJBarnabas Health’s Children’s Health network, has once again earned national praise for its cutting-edge diabetes care.

According to a statement released by hospital officials, the hospital’s Chronic Illness Management Program (CIMP) has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s prestigious list of 51 hospitals and health systems recognized for excellence in diabetes and endocrinology care.

This marks the second consecutive year CIMP has been included on the list, which highlights programs across the country that demonstrate a strong commitment to both emotional and physical well-being for patients living with endocrine disorders, including diabetes, thyroid conditions, and metabolic diseases.

CIMP stands out for its intensive, multidisciplinary four-week inpatient program specifically tailored for children and adolescents managing diabetes.

The initiative offers comprehensive support—ranging from medical treatment and psychotherapy to nutrition and diabetes education, along with physical and occupational therapy, recreation, and child life services.

Psychiatric evaluations are also available when needed. The program’s structured approach has led to notable improvements in patients’ health outcomes, including reduced A1C levels, better disease knowledge, fewer hospital visits, and enhanced quality of life.

In 2024, the hospital introduced a special addition to its services with Rocco’s Room—a thoughtfully designed nursery-style space that offers hands-on caregiver training to prepare families for their child’s transition home after treatment.

Further solidifying its leadership in pediatric diabetes care, the hospital’s outpatient CIMP clinic also received recognition from the American Diabetes Association® through the Education Recognition Program, underscoring the program’s adherence to national standards for diabetes self-management education and support.
