Child Injured in Downtown Newark Car Crash

A 4-month old baby and a man suffered minor injuries after a car crash that occurred in Newark's downtown on Thursday morning.

The crash was reported around 4:10 a.m. in the 1000 block of Broad Street at Symphony Hall.

Police say the driver of a vehicle traveling northbound on Broad Street, somehow lost control of the car and slammed into a utility pole. Police say the car continued on the sidewalk a short distance where it came to rest after a tree slowed down the movement of the car before it struck the Newark Boys Chorus building.

The utility pole fell on the awning of the Newark Symphony Hall causing some damage to the historic marquee police said.

According to reports, everyone made it out of the vehicle safely and without serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
