Chase Ends in Fatal Jump From Window in Newark

Authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the circumstances behind a woman who jumped from the window of a building early this morning in Newark, causing fatal injuries.

Details surrounding the incident are continuing to develop, but according to preliminary reports from the scene, police responded to a 4-story building located at 18 Jay Street shortly before 2 a.m. after receiving reports of an injured woman at that location.

Emergency responders arriving to the scene found the woman laying on the ground suffering serious injuries reports said.

The woman was pronounced dead a short time later.

Reports indicated that the woman was being chased by a person who was armed with a knife inside a fourth floor residence when the woman reportedly jumped form the window landing on the concrete.

A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The identity of the woman has not been released at this time.

There were no immediate reports of arrests made.
