Charges Against Two Accused of Tevlin Murder Dismissed; Burden of Proof Not Met

West Orange New Jersey

The death of Brendan Tevlin, a 19-year-old college student, made the front pages after being violently shot eight times on June 25, 2014.

However, after last week’s announcement that two of three men’s charges in connection with Tevlin’s death were dismissed, many were left puzzled.

According to officials, murder and weapon charges against Eric Williams and Jeremy Villagran, initially accused of taking part in the robbery that lead to Tevlin's death, were dismissed as a result of not being able to meet ‘burden of proof.’ As a result, of the ongoing investigation, no additional details were provided by the prosecutor’s office.

No other details were provided. It is unclear at this time if either of the teens will face any other charges related to the homicide.

Last week, Ali Muhammad Brown, was levied with terrorism charges, a first for the state.

Brown, who allegedly shot Tevlin eight times, admitted to officials that the killing was an act of "vengeance" against the United States for lives lost in the Middle East.
