A Pittsgrove husband and wife riding bicycles on the southbound shoulder of Delsea Drive in Franklin Township Wednesday afternoon were struck by a car, critically injuring the 57-year-old woman and also injuring her 62-year-old husband.
The driver of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra, later identified as Emilio Ortega 3rd, of Monroeville, was initially charged with two counts of assault by auto and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He has now been charged with death by auto.
The victims later identified as Susan L. Kinnan was airlifted to Cooper Medical Center, in Camden, where she succumbed to her injuries, according to authorities.
Her husband, John D Kinnan Jr. was transported by ambulance to Medical Center, in Camden and is in stable condition
The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office and the Franklin Township Police Department continue to investigate.
