Winning her first Grammy in 1996 for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album with "Face to Face," and again in 1998 with "He Leadeth Me," Cissy Houston has etched her name in the annals of music history.

However, Cissy's influence extends beyond her musical achievements. As the mother of the legendary Whitney Houston, she played a pivotal role in shaping Whitney's early interest in music and her eventual rise to stardom.

On her 90th birthday back on September 30, 2023, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy called to wish her a happy birthday, acknowledging her as a cherished figure in the state.

The dedication of the service area in Union, New Jersey, in Whitney Houston's name, attended by public officials and members of the New Jersey Hall of Fame, is a tribute to the Houston family's contribution to music and culture.

State leaders like State Sen. Joseph P. Cryan and Newark Council Member-At-Large Rev. Louise Scott-Rountree underscored the significance of the Houston legacy in New Jersey's cultural heritage.
