Hi there, RLS Metro Media friends and family. Your girl Najla is here! It is that time when it is warm and sunny almost every day, except when it’s raining, breathing life into those spring flowers!

This week is about remembering our Veterans, Soldiers, Sailors, and fallen loved ones during Memorial Day weekend. This comes close to my heart with my dad being a Veteran, and how closely my community honors them is such a fantastic thing!

The day started out chilly and lasted throughout the day, but the sun was shining down on the whole crowd the whole time. It was such a beautiful day to honor those lost to us fighting for this country.

In honor of this year’s Memorial Day Services, Carteret held its annual celebration presented by the Honorable Mayor Daniel J. Reiman, the Borough Council, and The Veterans Alliance, which took place at Carteret Waterfront Park on Sunday, May 25th.

“As I look into this crowd, I see that it is small. I see a young woman with a child who took the time to be out here today when the seats should be filled on this day, especially,” a speaker exclaimed.

First thing at 8:00 a.m., there was the casting of the memorial wreaths, flag raising, and waterfront service. There, Mayor Reiman introduced Carteret's officials, who have a hand in remembering and honoring those who served our country.

“Honoring those who fought and died for our country is something that is an all-day event in remembrance of them,” the speaker continued.

After initial introductions, a solemn silence took over the crowd as each family member and/or friend threw their wreaths into the water to honor their fallen loved ones, followed by the blow of the trumpet, sending them off.

The smiles, despite the sad faces and tears streaming down, were a celebration of life as well because on that day, when the sun was beaming down, it was like you could feel their presence with us.

Then at noon, there was a ceremony held directly by The Veterans Alliance at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial at Carteret Park located on Carteret Avenue at Cypress Street. Followed by a parade that, despite drawing a small crowd, showed up for those fallen and still serving this country every day.

Such a beautiful weekend to celebrate Memorial Day and all that it represents for this country.
