Car Crashes into NJ Transit Bus Injuring a Dozen in Newark’s South Ward

Police officials in Newark are leading the investigation into a bus crash that sent a dozen people to the hospital this evening. 

At approximately 5:00 p.m., NJ Transit bus #39, operating from Raymond Boulevard to Chancellor Avenue, was struck by a car in the vicinity of Bigelow and Bergen streets in Newark.

According to NJ Transit, the bus had approximately 19 customers on board. 

Newark Police said 12 customers and the operator were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

EMS took five, and the Newark Fire Department transported the other seven.

Police say the driver of the vehicle and two passengers were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
