Authorities are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place last month in Camden and ultimately led to the death of an 18-year-old local resident, according to a statement released by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred on the evening of March 20, 2025, when officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of South 7th Street and Ware Street.
Upon arrival, police discovered an individual suffering from gunshot wounds behind a home in the 700 block of Ware Street.
The victim was later identified as Zaheer Whye, a Camden resident.
He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition. After battling his injuries for more than two weeks, Whye died on April 4, 2025, officials said.
The investigation into the fatal shooting remains active and ongoing, according to Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
