Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Victim Witness Unit Shares Service to Assist Victim Survivors with Grieving Process

Camden County

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office Victim Witness Unit is dedicated to assisting victim-survivors with understanding and navigating the criminal justice process and the grieving process, according to Victim Witness Coordinator Kathi Whitman.

The unexpected death of a family member, loved one, or close friend is one of the most traumatic events a person can experience, especially when that death is the result of an act of violence.

Feelings of grief, anger, sadness and isolation are natural and can be overwhelming at times and it can sometimes be difficult for the surviving family members to find comfort.

"Meeting the friends and family of the victim in person not only gives us insight into the person the victim was but also gives us the opportunity to connect with the families and gain their trust," said Victim Witness Coordinator Whitman.

"This connection allows us to link them with established services in their community that will assist them with grief counseling, as well as any other services they may need. We are there to guide and assist them in their time of need. It is very fulfilling to help someone during this traumatic and difficult time."
