Business Fire in Green Brook Township Shuts Down US-22 in Both Directions

Somerset County officials temporarily closed US-22 in both directions as firefighters battles a two-alarm fire that broke out inside a business in Green Brook during the overnight hours.

Heavy fire reported on the loading dock inside the building of the Fitz Fish Ponds store located in the 300 block US-22 sent firefighters to the scene where they arrived to find massive flames tearing through the roof and thick smoke engulfing the structure shortly before 10:30 p.m.

As firefighters prepared to find the seat of the fire, flames began to shoot and extend from the building forcing firefighters to result in an exterior attack of the blaze according to preliminary reports.

As crews battled the massive blaze for about an hour, firefighter began a search for additional water sources to battle blaze from other angles reports said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control just before 12:45 p.m. but stayed at the scene to extinguish hot spots that existed inside the structure where the roof began to collapse due to the blaze.

A search of the building indicated no trapped or injured occupants and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
