As of early morning, it was 48 degrees along Martin Luther King Boulevard and Mercer Street in Newark’s Central Ward.

Commuters heading to the bus stop were met with crisp fall air and light winds, making it feel even cooler.

Further north, temperatures plunged below freezing in parts of Sussex County, while Morristown and West Milford also reported frigid early-morning readings.

According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 63 degrees and a north wind around 10 mph.

Tonight will stay mostly clear with lows around 44 degrees.

While it’s a chilly start, forecasters say sunshine will help warm things up later in the day, a classic crisp fall Friday across the Garden State.
