Police set up crime scenes in two locations near University Hospital after police found a vehicle struck by multiple bullets overnight.
According to police, police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Bergen and Cabinet streets before 1:55 a.m.
Rutgers Police officers arrived and found shell casings near the intersection then after a further search, they found a vehicle struck by bullets in the emergency room parking lot.
There were several shots fired incidents recorded around Newark during the overnight and it is not clear if the shooting resulted in a walk-in victim at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
