Brothers Arrested for Fatal Newark Shooting

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.

At approximately 4:47 a.m. today Angelo P. Lorenzi, 33, of Newark was fatally shot in the 500 block of South Orange Avenue.

Lorenzi was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:07 a.m.

Two people were detained at the scene and eventually arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.

Rayquan Tubbs, 19, of Irvington has been arrested and charged with murder and three weapons offenses.

His brother, Khalil Thomas, 21, of Newark was also arrested. Thomas has been charged with two weapons offenses.

Both men are being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark. Tubbs is being held on $750,000 bail.

Thomas is being held on $75,000. Bail was set by the Honorable Peter V. Ryan, Judge of the Superior Court.

The preliminary investigation indicates that there was an encounter between the victim and the suspects that resulted in the fatal shooting.
