Prosecutors said 26-year-old Gaetano S. Scannavino pleaded guilty this week to a single count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter during a court hearing before Superior Court Judge Henry P. Butehorn.

The charges stem from a September 14, 2024 incident, when Hazlet police officers were called to a parking lot along Route 36 for a medical emergency.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near a dumpster.

The victim, later identified as 42-year-old Anthony Hill of Eatontown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hazlet Police Department led authorities to identify Scannavino as the suspect in the shooting.

Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for February 18, 2026. Prosecutors said they plan to seek a 30-year state prison sentence.
