Officials are reporting at least one person confirmed dead from a crash that occurred in Newark's South Ward on Tuesday afternoon.

Details are developing, but according to preliminary reports, at approximately noon, a car and a tanker truck collided near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Bergen Street, causing the vehicle to burst into flames trapping the driver.
Emergency responders were able to extinguish the blaze and one person did manage to make it out of the vehicle before it exploded in the presence of witnesses.
There is a crime scene established in the area for the active and ongoing police investigation.
**UPDATE NPD 12:23 p.m:** ”We can confirm a three-car crash with a small tanker truck and one fatality”. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office will take the lead.
