BREAKING UPDATE:Two Children Confirmed Dead in Jersey City Building Fire

Jersey City

UPDATE 6:15 a.m. : Hudson County Officials confirmed the deaths of an 8-month child and an 11-year-old.

Hudson County officials are investigating a deadly fire that took the life of at least one child and severely injured another inside a residential building in Jersey City early Wednesday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, firefighters rushed to 470 Martin Luther King Drive after receiving reports of a fire inside a two-story townhouse-like building.

Upon arrival, they found a woman outside frantically screaming while telling officers that her children were trapped on the second floor of the burning home, according to preliminary reports.

Emergency responders forced entry into the burning building and found both children unconscious and unresponsive inside the home.

Officials would only confirm a child around 8-months old dead and the other as ’severely injured’ as 2:30 a.m.

Three Firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and are expected to be ok.

Jersey City firefighters stretched lines to extinguished the blaze in under an hour, with the cause under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
