NJ State Police remains on the scene of a crash with at least one fatal injury confirmed on the NJ Turnpike in Newark at this time.
According to a preliminary investigation, the crash happened on the southbound NJ Turnpike car lanes near exit 14 around 4:15 a.m.
Police arrived and found two vehicles involved in a collision with trapped occupants inside the cars, according to police. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said a NJ State Police crime scene unit and a fatal crash investigation team were called to assist in the investigation.
Other victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment, according to police.
The NJ Department of Transportation is reporting lanes blocked at this time.
