BREAKING: Teenage Girl Shot in Newark’s South Ward

Police are reporting non-fatal injuries for a child shot in Newark’s South Ward a short time ago.

In the second shooting of a child in less than 24-hours in the city, gunfire erupted in the vicinity 828 South 15th Street around 8 p.m., sending police to the scene to investigate.

Upon arrival, police found a 14-year-old girl suffering a bullet wound in her leg at that location.

The child was rushed to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Police searched the area and found about eight shell casings and a vehicle struck by bullets.

According to Newark officials, police are currently on the search for the suspect who gunned down a 12-year-old boy in the city’s Central Ward Friday night.

Both shootings remain under investigation.
