BREAKING: Shots Fired Incident Results in Crash in Newark’s South Ward

Police are on the scene of a car crash with multiple victims reportedly shot in a section of Newark's South Ward at this time. 

According to initial reports, at approximately 6:25 a.m., emergency responders rushed to the vicinity of 920 Frelinghuysen Avenue to investigate reports of a crash with injuries. 

EMS units were requested in a rush after rescue crews found occupants trapped inside a vehicle that crashed into a pole upon arrival. 

A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle might have been involved in a shooting, but it is not confirmed if the victims inside the car were injured from the crash or gunfire. 

There are severe injuries reported. 

Police found multiple shell casings in the parking lot of McDonald's. 

The circumstances behind this incident are pending a prosecutor’s office information request. 

The investigation is fluent, active, and ongoing. The Essex County Prosecutor will lead this investigation. 

Expect heavy and detoured traffic on Frelinghuysen Avenue for the morning rush. 

UPDATE 8:19 a.m. : This is a confirmed deadly shooting of at least one victim.

UPDATE: 8:55 a.m. Three shot with one dead.
