Two Newark officers were transported to University Hospital as a protocol while city and county investigators looked into the circumstances behind a police-involved shooting Monday morning.
Preliminary information from the scene indicated that at least one officer fired their weapon on an unidentified person after an incident at 753 Clinton Avenue shortly before 4:50 a.m.
The shooting happened in an apartment on the 3rd floor, but what transpired during the shooting is under an active and ongoing investigation.
Neither officer was physically injured, and the condition of the person shot has not been released as of 5:15 a.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of the shooting.
