Essex County authorities are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of an unidentified person on a highway on the Newark/Elizabeth border Sunday.
It happened on the Newark side of Route 1&9 South shortly before 3:30 a.m.
Police arrived at the scene and found two vehicles involved in a collision, with one of the cars ignited in flames.
One of the vehicle's occupants suffered fatal injuries due to the collision.
Elizabeth Police assisted police in shutting down the high from North Avenue to the crash scene.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the crash, which is now under an active investigation.
