Jersey City Police are investigating an accident in which a child, around the age of 8-years-old, was struck by a car this evening in the city.
According to police officials, the incident happened at around 4:52 p.m. police and EMS responded to the area of Christopher Columbus Drive and Grove Street after receiving reports of a person struck by a vehicle.
Emergency responders found the injured child and transported them to the Jersey City Medical Center in serious condition officials said.
The driver stayed at the scene while detectives investigated.
Authorities said earlier reports that a second person was struck by a vehicle during the same time the child was hit was considered minor.
The investigation is active an ongoing.
