BREAKING: Newark Police Chase Vehicle with Woman, Child Inside Held Against Their Will

Newark

Police were on a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle occupied by a woman and child reportedly fighting to get out of the car. Still, the driver refused and reached speeds of over 100 mph on an interstate in Essex County at this time.

Preliminary reports indicated, at approximately 1 p.m., police attempted to pull over a vehicle after a concerned citizen alerted officers of a possible abduction near 13th Avenue and South 12th Street.

Police say the driver sped away and entered I-280 west, where he led police several miles into West Orange.

The caller followed the vehicle and gave officers directions to where the driver was going before officers took over the pursuit.

Officers were able to get the driver to stop on I-280 east, at exit 10 Northfield Avenue ramp, with NJ State and West Orange police notified.

The woman and child have been safely taken from the vehicle and are not seriously injured.

Officers at the scene are attempting to sort the incident out and the driver is detained. The incident is appearing to be domestic in nature.
