BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Pedestrian Killed by Car on McCarter Highway in Newark

If you are driving on McCarter Highway in Newark, expect heavy traffic as police have the southbound lanes at Lafayette Street closed and the northbound lanes at Elm Street detoured due to a pedestrian strike with confirmed fatal injuries.

According to police, the unidentified pedestrian was struck at Elm Street and McCartney Highway at around 10:20 a.m.

The family of the victim told RLS Media at the scene that it is their 45-year-old brother who is from Ecuador.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified of the incident.

It is not immediately known if the driver of the car that struck the victim stayed at the scene.
